Launching a new business is a bit like being made unemployed and having to search for a new job again – scary!
I tend to be pretty good at keeping a positive attitude no matter what the circumstances and thought I’d share my thoughts on staying positive with you today. A reminder for me and hopefully some ideas for you!
There are six things main things I do to assure that my attitude is the very best it can be, under all circumstances.
1. Whatever challenges I face, I focus on the future rather than on the past. Instead of worrying about who did what and who is to blame, I focus on where I want to be and what I want to do. It helps me to get a clear mental image of my ideal successful future, and then take whatever action I can to begin moving in that direction.
Let the past take care of itself, and get My mind, My thoughts, and My mental images on the future.
2. Whenever I’m faced with a difficulty, I focus on the solution rather than on the problem. I think and talk about the ideal solution to the obstacle or setback, rather than wasting time rehashing and reflecting on the problem.
Solutions are inherently positive, whereas problems are inherently negative. The instant that I begin thinking in terms of solutions, I become positive and constructive again.
3. Assume that something good is hidden within each difficulty or challenge. Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, a major proponent of positive thinking, once said, “Whenever God wants to give us a gift, he wraps it up in a problem.”
The bigger the gift I have coming, the bigger the problem I will receive. But the wonderful thing is that if I look for the gift, I will always find it.
4. Assume that whatever situation I am facing at the moment is exactly the right situation I need to ultimately be successful. This situation has been sent to me to help me learn something, to help me become better, to help me expand and grow.
One of the affirmations I have learned to use continually is this: “Everything is happening perfectly”
5. In every challenge, I look for the valuable lesson. Assume that every setback contains a lesson that is essential for me to learn. Only when I learn this lesson will I be smart enough and wise enough to go on to achieve the big goals that I have set for Myself.
Again, since I can think about only one thing at a time, if I am busy looking for the lesson, I cannot simultaneously think about the difficulty or the obstacle. And, surprise, surprise, I will always find the lesson, if I look for it.
6. The sixth way to keep My mind positive all the time is to make a list. Whenever I have a goal that is unachieved, a difficulty that is unresolved, or a problem that is blocking me from getting where I want to go, I sit down at my laptop or with a pen and paper and make a list of every single thing that I could possibly do to resolve the situation.
The more I think and make notes, the more I will take control over my conscious mind. When I am writing down possible solutions, My mind will be positive, all the time.
If I do what other successful people do, if I use My mind to think, to exert mental control over the situation, I will be positive and cheerful most of the time. And I will reap the benefits enjoyed by all successful people.
